SMOKE AND FLARES

The F16 dives for the deck while popping flares to hopefully distract an incoming missile threat.
Fortunately on this occasion no missile is inbound and the flares are part of the display routine. If the threat were real the white hot flares would offer a stronger heat source than the jet’s tailpipe and hopefully draw a heat seeking weapon away from the aircraft.
